  • AXS FILM FUND

    Seven documentary projects are getting an important boost from the AXS Film Fund, an initiative launched in 2020 to support nonfiction creators living with disabilities from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. The fund, created in partnership with the Bertha Foundation, announced grants of up to $10,000 each for five films and two new media projects.

  • SUNDANCE INSTITUTE PRODUCERS LAB

    The Producers Lab nurtures emerging fiction and nonfiction independent film producers with project-specific support through one-on-one meetings and intimate group sessions with veteran producer advisors to hone their creative instincts and problem-solving skills and to develop strategies for pitching, financing, production, navigating the marketplace, and sustainability. Selected for the Producers Lab are five fiction film and five nonfiction film producers and their projects.

  • SUNDANCE INSTITUTE X ADOBE WOMEN TO WATCH

    The nonprofit Sundance Institute announced today the eight women participating in the 2024 Sundance Women to Watch x Adobe Fellowship, a yearlong support program designed to further support and sustain the creative practice of women artists, prioritizing filmmakers from historically underrepresented communities. The program began in 2020 and was informed by the Institute and Adobe’s shared commitment to develop and champion underrepresented voices at pivotal moments in their careers.

    The Southern Producers Lab is a New Orleans Film Society development program designed to help emerging, diverse producers from across the American South discover their producing niche and strengthen community connections. Each year, seven South-based producers are selected to participate in an 18-month mentorship program that includes industry guidance, peer support, and a 5-day intensive lab.

    When I was 2 years old, I saved my brother’s life. My mom was napping, and I ran over to her and was able to burst out the words from my toddler mouth, “PJ… Spinning.” My mom woke up and ran to my brother who was standing, rotating in circles while seizing and gasping for oxygen. She caught him before he fell. This was just the first of many seizures I witnessed growing up with my brother.
